Abstract

Background & aim: Clinical trials are one of the most reliable studies in evidence-based medicine. Considering the role of such studies in the field of obstetrics and gynecology, the present study was conducted with the aim of  Critical Appraisal of the Published Clinical Trials on The Effect of Acupressure and Labor Pain in Iranian Women.
Methods: In this study, all clinical trial articles regarding the effect of acupressure on labor pain of Iranian women written in Persian or English, and published in journals indexed in Web of Science, Scopus, PubMed, Cochrane, Embase, SID, and Magiran were retrieved. Two researchers independently, searched using keywords “Labor/Labour pain and Acupressure and their Persian equivalents” without considering the time limit until May 2023. Critical appraisal of articles was done by the Consort-2010 checklist and data were analyzed using the SPSS V.25 software.
Results: The average score of the evaluated articles (n=28) was 20.10 and the percentage of compliance of the articles to the Consort checklist was 54.3%. The lowest and highest scores were 16 and 28. The articles had the least compliance in the sections of other information (35.8%), method (47.5%), results (48.5%), title and abstract (62.5%), discussion (77.2%), and introduction (100%) respectively.
Conclusion: Due to the importance of clinical trial studies, adhering to the Consort checklist is necessary. Researchers would benefit from training sessions about the use of this checklist. Also, reviewers and editors of journals should consider evaluating authors' adherence to this tool in order to provide a clearer clinical trial report.
