Abstract
Background & aim: Women’s empowerment is a process of enabling women to make productive and creative participation in their lives. There are a lot of misconceptions about women's empowerment in Islam, worldwide. Therefore, the aim of this article was to review the application of islamic laws in different dimensions of women's empowerment.
Methods: In this Narrative review, which was conducted based on the Scale for Assessing Narrative Review Articles (SANRA), Persian and English articles indexed in databases including Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, as well as Iranian databases of SID and Magiran, were examined without time limit up to March 2022. Related articles to the different dimensions of women’s empowerment including educational, economical, social and political as well as sexual and reproductive health aspects were reviewed.
Results: Out of 572 articles, 27 were included in the study. The results demonstrated that empowerment of women has a crucial role in their lives. So, to achieve this aim, it is important that all aspects of women's empowerment consisting of educational, economical, social, political as well as sexual and reproductive health dimensions be considered. According to this narrative review, the recommendations of Islam are also in line with this variety and covers all these dimensions.
Conclusion: Considering that in the verses of Qur'an most aspects of women's empowerment has been addressed, therefore, practical use of Islamic recommendations and the Qur'anic advices towards different dimensions of women’s empowermentcan be helpful to empower women in different sociocultural contexts, which are under cultural influences and social impacts of Islam.
