The Factors Related to Sleep Quality in Women Undergoing Infertility Treatment: A Systematic Review

Abstract

Background & aims: Considering the importance of sleep in fertility rate, the present study was conducted with aim to investigate the factors related to sleep quality in women undergoing infertility treatment.
Methods: This systematic review study, first by designing the study question and searching in SID, PubMed, Magiran, Iran doc, Science Direct, Scopus and Google Scholar search engine with keywords such as "assisted reproductive technology", "psychological factors" "Infertility factors", "Sleep quality" and "Female" were performed, and then relevant studies from 2013 to 2024 were identified. Selected studies after screening the title, abstract and full text of 544 studies, finally 12 studies were left to announce the results.
Results: A total of 12 articles were included in this study. The findings were classified into two categories: psychological factors and infertility factors. In the category of psychological factors, the inverse relationship between the level of stress, anxiety and depression and the quality of sleep and the direct relationship between mental abilities and the quality of sleep were pointed out. In the second category, five studies mentioned the infertility factors. The type of infertility (primary), the cause of infertility (female), the duration of the disease (more than three years), the type of treatment (invasive), the cause of infertility (PCOS and irregular menstruation and abnormality) were related to low sleep quality in women.
Conclusion: The research results showed that some psychological factors and some factors related to infertility can have a significant relationship with the quality of sleep of infertile women.
