Abstract
Introduction: Stunting prevention programs are important to be carried out in anticipating various impacts of stunting. Stunting prevention programs must be carried out comprehensively, including in rural areas. A qualitative approach is used to find out the views of mothers, cadres and community midwives regarding child stunting incidents and the implementation of stunting prevention programs in rural areas.
Methods: A qualitative descriptive design approach to explore further the public's perception of stunting. Purposive sampling was used to select participants were mothers with children under five, community midwives, and cadres in the Cilongok I Banyumas Community Health Center Working Area, Central Java, Indonesia who met the research criteria. A total of three groups consisting of 11 mothers, 10 midwives and 10 cadres were included in this study and were involved in one focus group discussion for each group. Thematic analysis was carried out to describe the results of phenomena that were successfully explored and analyzed using inductive methods.
Results: There were 240 codes, 33 categories and 4 main themes; 1. Stunting as one of the problems of child development, 2. Various factors that play a role in the incidence of stunting in children, 3. Various efforts made to prevent and overcome stunting, and 4. Dynamics in implementation prevention and management of stunting.
Conclusion: Factors related to the incidence of stunting in children aged 0-2 years were society, namely inappropriate parenting patterns, lack of maternal knowledge, and poor environmental sanitation. Appropriate and effective interventions are needed to prevent and treat stunting.
