Abstract

Background & aim: Sexual satisfaction is one of the factors affecting women's health and one of the most important indicators of life satisfaction. Squill oil, as a warm oil, leads to sexual arousal by dilating the vessels of the genital system and increasing blood flow. Improvement in sexual function may lead to sexual satisfaction. This study aims to determine the effect of Squill oil on the sexual satisfaction of women in reproductive age.
Methods: This double blind randomized clinical trial was done on 60 women aged 15-45 years old referred to the Women's Clinic of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences. Participants were randomly divided into two groups of users and placebo for 4 weeks. The instrument used in this study was Larsson's Satisfaction Questionnaire. Sexual activity of the women before and after the intervention was evaluated and sexual satisfaction scores were compared between groups. Data were analyzed using SPSS 21 software. The P-value less than 0.05 was considered as significant.
Results: Mean (standard deviation) of sexual satisfaction score before the intervention in the intervention and control groups was 40.0 (0.4) and 41.9 (4.1), respectively. Before intervention, there was no significant difference between the mean score of sexual satisfaction between groups (P = 0.074). At week 4 compared to baseline, there was 37.4 (10.4) and 7.1 (10.3) points increase in the mean sexual satisfaction score of the participants in intervention and control groups, respectively (PMann-Whitney < 0.001).
Conclusion: Application of Squill oil improved the sexual satisfaction of women in reproductive age.
